about
Acclaimed US experimental electronic producer Katie Gately boldly reinterprets the most free-form track from Tangents’ impeccable new album into a euphoric, fuzz-filled pop abstraction. In Gately’s own words:
“'Immersion' drew me in because it felt like a warm, borderless bath. For the remix, I embraced a “beginning, middle and end” structure to see what would happen.
I began by processing the hats. These sounds resembled little mice characters sneaking around the kitchen, stealing the food. When this image emerged, I knew to grab the cello for a break in the middle. It felt like a great disciplinarian sound - swooping in to hush the ruckus.
For the end, I wanted rebellion so I threw the piano and guitar stems through fuzz pedals to create a roar. Quickly, the urge to sing came along and I found myself chanting. I hesitated for a bit on whether or not this was too rude ( to sing on an instrumental song) but I hoped by singing the song's title, it would keep things in bounds."

Oh how I long for this album in vinyl format! Such smoothness. Such warmth. Such execution. This music begs to be taken along and woven into memories. Everyone I’ve shared this album with has loved it. The music speaks far and wide. Shouting out to a fellow follower, Brian Lehmann, for his excellent taste in music. If not for him, I likely would have never stumbled upon this absolute gem! Plinchmo Larduktin
